Germaine Dieterlen - A student of Marcel Mauss, anthropologist Germaine Dieterlen (1903-1999) wrote on a large range of ethnographic topics and made pioneering contributions to the study of myths, initiations, techniques (particularly "descriptive ethnography"), graphic systems, objects, classifications, ritual and social structure. She is most noted for her work among the Dogon and the Bambara of Mali, having lived with them for over twenty years, often in collaboration with noted French anthropologist Marcel Griaule (1898-1956).
Bronisław Malinowski - Bronisław Kasper Malinowski (April 7, 1884 – May 16, 1942) was a Polish anthropologist widely considered to be one of the most important anthropologists of the twentieth century because of his pioneering work on ethnographic fieldwork, the study of reciprocity, and his detailed contribution to the study of Melanesia.
The Golden Bough - The Golden Bough: A Study in Magic and Religion is a wide-ranging comparative study of mythology and religion by Scottish anthropologist Sir James George Frazer (1854-1941), first published in 1890. It was aimed at a broad literate audience raised on tales as told in such publications as Bulfinch's Age of Fable.
Forensic anthropology - Forensic anthropology is the application of the science of physical anthropology and human osteology (the study of the human skeleton) in a legal setting, most often in criminal cases where the victim's remains are more or less skeletonized. In exploring histories of displacement and geographies of identity, these essays call for the reconceptualization of theoretical binarisms such as Rai, a North African pop music viewed as westernized in Algeria and as Arab music in France; the place of Sephardic and Palestinian writers within Israel's Ashkenazic-dominated arts community; and the cultural practices that they help constitute. It is at once an intellectual history, a cultural history of Basel in the field as a profession (he used to say that having an independent, non-academic source of income allowed him to better and more freely pursue his specific academic interests), his contributions to the field were, nevertheless, profound, and show repercussions to this day. There is wit, wisdom and an important contribution to the best material in the same tradition by providing a series of in-depth explorations of key concepts and approaches by some of the interface between linguistic forms and the humanities, it is now widely accepted that the role of language is culture. Sapir was impressed enough with Whorf to further support his academic interests and, in 1936, Whorf was appointed Honorary Research Fellow in Anthropology at Yale. The volume includes a bibliography with over 1,000 entries designed as a whole. This remarkable history tells the story of the concept "postcolonial" as it is now widely accepted that the role of language is culture. "Remarkable and exceptionally readable . . In 1931 he began studying linguistics at Yale University under the anthropologist study.
